Kate Middleton owns the ‘most valuable piece of royal jewellery’ – pictures

Royal jewellery is a very exciting thing for fans, who love to see the tiaras and engagement rings at royal weddings for example. But the royal women also have stunning necklaces that aren’t always noticed as much.

Back in 2014, Kate Middleton stepped out wearing a statement necklace which looked very dramatic.

According to style experts from jewellerybox, this pendant was the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, and it is the most expensive piece of royal jewellery in the world.

The experts said: “The British Royal Family’s Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, worth a staggering £66.3million, is the most valuable piece of jewellery currently owned by any Royal Family.

“It would take the average British person over 2000 years of hard work to be able to afford this necklace.”

Charlotte White, the head of design at Europe’s largest online diamond jeweller 77 Diamonds told Express.co.uk that Kate’s jewellery choices are “impeccable”.

The expert added: “She has certainly donned some of the most prized, rare and valuable jewels in the world in her time.”

This gives an insight into how expensive the British Royal Family’s jewellery collection is.

The Princess of Wales loves natural diamonds, which explains why she wore the necklace in 2014.

Charlotte continued: “This was particularly noteworthy in 2014 at The Portrait Gala at London’s National Portrait Gallery.

“This was one of the times Kate has worn the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, a magnificently opulent creation which saw her positively dripping in diamonds.

“Just the pendant section alone, which is detachable, incorporates 13 emerald cut diamonds.”

The experts from jewellerybox commented: “The world’s four most expensive pieces of royal jewellery, costing a combined £151.3million are all owned by the British Royal Family.

“19 out of the 47 most expensive royal jewels featured in this research are owned by the British Royal Family and are worth a staggering £199.1million.”

This Nizam of Hyderabad necklace is the most expensive piece of royal jewellery in the world, worth £66.3million, whereas the most affordable jewel is worth a lot less.

The experts at jewellerybox claimed: “The most affordable piece of royal jewellery is the British Royal Family’s amethyst heart necklace, valued at £50,000.

“Most Britons could afford this necklace after two years of working.”

This necklace was originally owned by the late Queen Mother who died in 2002, but it now belongs to Queen Camilla.

The Queen Consort wore the statement piece at the film premiere of Skyfall in 2012.

The sautoir necklace consists of diamonds, amethysts, and pearls. It also has a big amethyst stone in the centre in the shape of a heart, as well as a diamond pendant.

The necklace was a wedding gift from Queen Alexandra to the Queen Mother, and it was clearly inherited by Camilla after her death in 2002.
