Next Bond poll – Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson beaten by No 1 | Films | Entertainment

Almost 18 months have passed since Daniel Craig’s No Time To Die hit cinemas, concluding his record 15 years as James Bond. Speculation continues to be rife over just who will take up the Licence to Kill next with the bookies’ odds being a tight race between some big stars. A couple of names being thrown around are Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and yet neither of these actors is Britain’s No 1 choice to play the next Bond.

Party Casino polled 1000 Brits and the favoured age for the next Bond is Gen X (35-50) with 67 per cent of the vote compared to just 26 per cent for Millennial (18-34). Meanwhile, we’re a patriot lot with 52 per cent of the UK saying they would prefer a British actor and 36 per cent saying they definitely want one.

Similarly, when asked if a foreigner was cast how important it would be that they spoke with a British accent, 51 per cent said they would prefer it and 38 per cent said they definitely wanted it. When given a list of bookies’ favourites and stars rumoured for the role, Cavill was just beaten into second place by Tom Hardy who is the UK’s No 1 choice to replace Craig as Bond. Tom Hardy is top on 12%, just ahead of Henry Cavill on 11% Richard Madden follows on 8.9% with Tom Holland on 8.4% and James Norton on 8%.

Former frontrunner Idris Elba is on 7% with Robert Pattinson on 6.6% and Tom Hiddleston on 6.2%.

Surprisingly, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, who is the current UK bookies favourite, is lagging further down on 6%, closely followed by Cillian Murphy on 5.2% of the total vote.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “007 chiefs have got to be closing in on a replacement for Daniel Craig by now, and punters reckon Henry Cavill may just be their man.”
