Princess Charlotte takes after Queen Elizabeth II with favourite hobby

Princess Charlotte is the beloved great-granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and despite their vast age difference, the pair had a lot in common.

In August 2022, Prince William, Kate, Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte attended The Commonwealth Games.

They made a visit to SportsAid House, a charity supporting talented young athletes to achieve their ambitions in sport and life, where the little Princess revealed her own favourite sport.

Tim Lawler, the chief executive of Sports Aid, said: “She really, really loved seeing the swimming, but she’s interested in the gymnastics.

“And while they’re trying lots of different sports at home, I understand, when I asked her about sport she answered very easily and said, ‘It’s gymnastics that I like’,” reported Hello!

William vouched for his daughter’s love of the sports – “a lot of cartwheels going on around the house.”

Kate added: “Yeah, Charlotte spends most of her time upside down. Either handstands or cartwheels.”

Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly another big fan of gymnastics, although she may not have been doing handstands and cartwheels in Buckingham Palace herself.

In 2016 the late monarch once met diver Tom Daley, who recalled the Queen taking a keen interest in gymnastics.

On Swedish chat show Skavlan, he revealed: “She commented on her height compared to some of the other athletes in the room and because me and the other athletes were quite small, and she said, ‘Maybe I should try gymnastics’.”

Max Whitlock, who was honoured with an MBE for his services to gymnastics by the Queen in 2017, also shared that HRH enjoyed the sport.

He said: “She was really nice. She basically said she loved watching the gymnastics because the stuff that we do doesn’t seem possible, which was really nice,” reported The Daily Mail.

Princess Charlotte loves horses, as did the late Queen, who reportedly took her first riding lesson aged three before receiving a Shetland pony called Peggy at the age of four.

Charlotte even honoured her late great-grandmother by wearing a horseshoe brooch to her state funeral on September 19, 2022.
