Taylor Swift has announced the release date for her next re-recorded album, telling fans it’s her “favourite” so far, and revealing there will be five extra tracks which didn’t make it on to the original.
The 33-year-old hitmaker revealed that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will be released on 27 October, sharing the news live on stage during the final US date of her Eras Tour on Wednesday 9 August – written 8/9 in US dating convention, so mirroring the album’s title.
She later shared a post on social media showing the album cover, and writing: “Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you soon! The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out 27 October.
“To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the five From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”
The original album had 13 tracks, with the deluxe edition containing 16. The re-record will have 21 tracks.
It was first released in 2014, with hit singles including Shake It Off, Blank Space and Bad Blood. Her fifth studio album, it marked her full transition from country singer to pop star and won her three Grammys, including the coveted best album.
She has since gone on to become the only solo female artist to win Grammy best album three times.
Swift announced the reclamation of her entire back catalogue in 2019, following a dispute with music manager Scooter Braun, who had bought her formal label and sold the rights to her master recordings.
The star has worked her way through each of her collections, and now just her 2006 album Taylor Swift and her 2017 album Reputation are yet to be re-released.
Her latest re-recording, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) was released in July.
Swift is currently part way through her world tour – The Eras – which began in March in Arizona, and will cross five continents performing over 130 shows.
Her three-hour-long performance – which includes more than 40 songs a night, with “secret songs” and special guests, multiple outfits and pyrotechnics – has so far earned her praise from fans and critics alike. It’s her first big set of shows since 2018.
She has been supported by rock trio Haim in the US, and will be joined by American band Paramore for the European leg of the tour, which kicks off in May 2024.
Swift will play 13 shows across the UK in June and August 2024.
Swift fever has been taking over the US during the run of her sell-out shows, with celebrity fans spotted at the star’s US gigs including Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, Channing Tatum, Cameron Diaz, Hilary Duff, Brie Larson, Elizabeth Banks and Amy Adams.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, is reported to have taken part in a Taylor Swift-themed SoulCycle class last week, while holidaying in LA.
Swift’s Era’s Tour will now move on to South America before heading to Asia and Australia in 2024. She will spend the summer of 2024 touring Europe, finally returning to North America for extra dates which she added to the run just last week, due to popular demand.
