Back in 2016, AC/DC concluded their Rock or Bust world tour and Angus Young was the last original band member standing.
Having been at risk of hearing loss, singer Brian Johnson was replaced by Axl Rose, rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young had retired due to dementia, drummer Phil Rudd couldn’t tour because of ongoing legal problems and then bassist Cliff Williams announced his retirement.
A year later Malcolm sadly died from the effects of dementia and it looked like the iconic rock band was done.
But then rumours began to surface of a new album, which manifested in 2020’s Power Up, with Cliff coming out of retirement to record.
Three years on and AC/DC have just performed their first live show in seven years at Power Trip Festival in Indio, California.
Brian, Cliff and Stevie Young were back with Angus, alongside Matt Laug stepping in for Rudd on drums.
The rockers performed a 24 song set on Saturday night which included live debuts of Demon Fire and Shot in the Dark, alongside classics from Back in Black and Thunderstruck to Highway to Hell.
This was AC/DC only officially planned live show, but rumours abound of a 2024 tour.
A source told the Daily Star’s Wired column last month: “For a while it looked like an AC/DC would never play live again. Technology has helped Brian get back to doing what he loves best. More dates are being looked at for next year, some big shows.”
And speaking with the Fuelling Around podcast in the summer, Brian sounded pretty positive about future AC/DC shows, saying: “Trying to get those guys back together again was tough but I’ve got my fingers crossed – everything is going ok. The most important thing about it all is the eagerness we all feel, the juices are running again.”
