Freddie Mercury was well known for his flamboyant stage wear and eccentric fashion choices like wearing a Japanese kimono over a superhero T-shirt.
And for the first time ever many that haven’t been seen since he wore them in public decades ago are on display for free over the next few weeks.
Before he died in 1991, the Queen singer left his Garden Lodge Kensington home and its contents to his former lover Mary Austin and now she’s auctioning everything off in September.
The star’s private home interiors have been recreated at Sotheby’s in London, including his walk-in wardrobe.
Express.co.uk took part in a press preview where the auctioneers pointed out his favourite jacket and scarf, which you can view below.
Much of Freddie’s clothes were hung up in the large walk-in wardrobe chronologically.
This helped chart the “huge contrast going through this romantic period with all this colour…and then bang 1979/80 it changes. Flash t-shirt cuts his hair off, has a moustache, athletic vests are very key….
“The Burgundy is his very favourite jacket. He’s on record saying that’s his favourite.”
She also pointed out the zigzag scarf as one of his most prized pieces of clothing, having worn it from the early seventies through to 1977.
Just outside this room hangs a rainbow of Japanese kimonos of which he owned 50, plus a number of familiar stage clothes including his silver sequinned suit and 39th birthday party military jacket.
