Kate and Meghan’s ‘awkward moment’ that was spotted by Prince Harry backstage | Royal | News

Prince Harry has spoken about witnessing an uncomfortable interaction between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate that has now gone viral on TikTok.

The incident allegedly took place during Meghan and Harry’s public outing with Kate and Prince William for a joint appearance at the Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018, in which Harry described the royal engagement as “fun” and that the “atmosphere was hugely positive.”

However, there was also an “awkward moment” backstage when Meghan asked Kate to borrow her lip gloss, which caused the Princess to grimace and be “taken aback.”

Harry wrote about the incident in his memoir ‘Spare’ which was published earlier this year in January and broke a Guinness Record after becoming the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time.

An audio clip of Harry speaking about Meghan’s request, which the Duke described as an “American thing” has now gained popularity on social media, and the video has caused royal fans to debate if it is “inappropriate” to ask another woman to share her makeup.

In the viral video, pictures of Meghan and Kate appear on the screen as Harry reads an extract from ‘Spare’. He said: “This came on the heels of an awkward moment backstage. Meg asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss. An American thing. Meg forgot hers, worried she needed some, and turned to Kate for help.”

Harry continued: “Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube, Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced. Small clash of styles, maybe?

“Something we should’ve been able to laugh about soon after. But it left a little mark. And then the press sensed something was up and tried to turn it into something bigger. Here we go, I thought sorrowfully.”

Buckingham Palace has not responded to any of the allegations made in Harry’s memoir, and Kate has not made any public statement about the incident.

The video has received over 300,000 views and caused many users to rush to the comment section to discuss if women usually borrow lipgloss from each other.

One user said: “I would never share lipgloss due to germs, but Meghan applied it to her finger, which is much better and would not bother me.”

Another person wrote: “That’s how you end up with cold sores! It is inappropriate to ask to borrow another woman’s lipgloss.”

I third commentator said: “Lipgloss is like sharing a toothbrush! However, Kate could have said no if it was a big deal.”

Someone else wrote: “ Everyone has their own preference when it comes to sharing such things. I personally think it’s gross, but someone else might not.”
