The glamorous ball is meant to be the biggest fashion event of the year and is attended by the biggest stars, but popstar Lizzo has spoken out about the harsh reality of what it is like to attend the Met Gala.
The musician took to Instagram Live to talk about her experience of being invited to the Met Gala last year in 2022 and had a long list of complaints.
She fumed about the “long f***ing line” and said she was sweating and her feet were hurting due to the long wait.
Lizzo said: “I’m taking the glamour away from it but it’s true. You’ve gotta wait. You’re waiting and that’s the hardest part.”
The pop star complained about there being no chairs for the celebrities to sit on, as well as very limited food and drink options.

Lizzo said: “They don’t have no chairs, no cocktails. I was like, ‘B***? Can we get some chairs or some drinks or some hors d’oeuvres?”
The Met Gala is a prestigious fundraising event held every year by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, with tickets priced between $30,000 and $50,000.
Once inside the party, Lizzo recalled that the waiters only offered a choice of either red or white wine to drink.
She said: “They were being really stingy with the liquor that night. He was like, ‘Red or white wine?’ and I was like, ‘Tequila! Do you know what I’ve been through? Do you know how many hours I’ve been in this corset? How long I’ve been in these damn shoes? Tequila!'”
Lizzo recounted playing music at the Met Gala and took her $55,000 custom flute with her on the red carpet, but ended up being yelled at by photographers.
She said: “I had this plan to play the flute and do the whole intro [of a classical piece] but I got nervous and I only played it once because all the photographers were heckling me,”
Lizzo recalled: “They were like, ‘You’re putting us to sleep with the flute!'”
“I was like, ‘OK?’ In my mind I thought everyone was going to be transfixed. I only played it once, only the first half of it. Then I posed and got the photos.”
It is unknown if Lizzo will be at the 2023 Met Gala this evening, as the famous event takes every year on the first Monday in May.
However, it seems likely as on Sunday evening, Lizzo posted to her social media that she was at the Met Gala’s pre-dinner event in New York wearing a sheer-purple midi dress and wearing matching tinted purple glasses with silver sandals.
Despite having some compliments, Lizzo admitted on her Instagram that she enjoyed her time at the ball last year, and said it was like “prom for celebrities.”
Lizzo said: “My prom f***ing sucked. Now I feel like the Grammys and the Met Ball, they’re like my prom.”
