Wetherspoons announces closure of popular pub this September

Wetherspoons has announced the closure of one of its pubs, The Widow Frost on Leeming Street in Mansfield.

Staff will pull their last pints on site on Sunday, September 17. This means the pub will be open for business for just another week and a half.

A sign on the bar states: “We sadly announce The Widow Frost is now closing on September 17, 2023.

“We are all hoping, but not promising, to see you all round at the Stag & Pheasant,” reported Chad.

The Stag & Pheasant is another Wetherspoon pub in Mansfield, located on Clumber Street.

But all is not lost for regulars at the closing pub. JD Wetherspoon hopes that the pub will have a new owner shortly.

Staff who currently work at The Widow Frost will thankfully not lose their jobs, but instead transferred to other Wetherspoon pubs in the area.

JD Wetherspoon’s Eddie Gershon said: “There will be no redundancies, staff will be transferring to Wetherspoon pubs in Mansfield, Worksop, Sutton or Kirkby.

“We believe the premises will be closed for four, or so, months before being opened by the new owner, but we cannot confirm these details.”

According to Chad, at one stage The Widow Frost and Stag & Pheasant were supposed to merge to create a larger pub, knocking down former QI nightclub which sat between them.

However, plans changed at the end of 2022 when The Widow Frost was taken out of the project to be sold as a single entity.
