Electric blankets have been one of the top selling items this year, with many using them to stay cosy and avoid huge heating bills.
Although electric blankets have existed for many years, they have recently become a solution to staying warm amidst the rise in the cost of heating.
MoneySavingExpert recommended electric blankets for low running costs, saying: ‘it costs roughly 4p an hour to run an electric blanket’ and with the energy price cap raising by 80 percent, electric blankets are an effective way for people to warm themselves, without having to warm their entire homes.”
John Lewis is selling the Dreamland Sherpa Electric Underblanket, which comes in four sizes, single (£64.99), double (£94.99), king (£104.99) and superking (£114.99).

The blanket straps onto the mattress, providing warmth and an extra layer of comfort and padding.
With six temperature settings to choose from, the heat level is completely adjustable and features an auto shut off timer of 1, 3 or 9 hours for peace of mind, plus it benefits from John Lewis’ three year guarantee.
The material is made of cosy Sherpa on one side, but can be flipped over to use the less fluffy side when it gets slightly warmer.
John Lewis’ website describes the blanket as ‘machine washable and tumble dryer safe, to keep it white, clean and fresh. It has a fast 5-minute heat-up time and only costs from as little as 1p per night to run.’
John Lewis customers have been leaving reviews on the blanket, with some calling it ‘ideal’.
Nick said: ”The electric blanket is worth every pen. I would recommend this product.”
Pippa commented: ”ideal to take the chill off the bed. Additional one hour function compared to the electric blanket it replaced. Heats up quickly and in all areas so much so it is seriously warm on its highest setting. I haven’t got a smart meter so cannot verify the charges but amhoping it’s a cheaper option that having the central heating on!”
Frances also added: ”The product is first class. Warm and cosy. Maintains the temperature all night which is a real treat. I am delighted.”
